Electronic Receipt Management Method, Program, and System

Filed: August 3, 2023 Published: February 14, 2025 Inventors: Shohei Shimoda, Yasushi Motoki

The Problem

Existing electronic receipt systems require consumers to identify themselves at the point of sale — scanning loyalty cards, entering phone numbers, or linking accounts. This creates privacy concerns: sensitive personal data is tied to every purchase, and consumers have little control over how that data is used.

Our Solution

This patent provides a system that separates personally identifiable information from transaction data, then links receipts to consumer IDs through a privacy-preserving mechanism.

Step 1

Transaction Capture

Transaction data is captured through the business terminal (POS register). At this stage, no consumer personal information is included.

Step 2

Consumer ID Linking

Consumers obtain their ID through their own device. A code scan links the transaction to the consumer ID. Since the ID is acquired through a separate channel from the business terminal, privacy is preserved.

Step 3

Receipt Management & Output

Consumers can view and export their receipts at any time from their own dashboard. Output complies with legal requirements including amounts and tax rates.

Business Value

Privacy Protection

Transaction data contains no personal information by design, reducing data breach risk.

Consumer Control

Consumers own and manage their receipts. Export in any format, any time.

Paperless Operations

Reduce receipt paper costs and CO2 emissions by going digital.

Legal Compliance

Output receipts that comply with electronic bookkeeping laws and regulations.
